This week, we were focusing on the functions and tools of Illustrator and worked towards creating a poster based on an example we were given. We began by selecting a photograph to work with. This is the image I selected:

The example we were given was someone on a skateboard so I chose this for ease and so I could create a similar effect. We covered: Image tracing, brush creation and pattern application. I created a brush through Adobe Capture CC. I also learnt how to make an object and create a colour pattern on this app
I created a brush on the Adobe Capture app and then applied it to my poster after I had image traced it with Illustrator so that it looked less photographed and more reductive. We then learned about how to use layers in Illustrator and I ungrouped all the different parts of the image so I could edit and place them where I wanted I also cropped the image to make the main focus of the poster a man on his skateboard. I then chose a font which fit with the overall theme and look of the poster and created a border too so it looked professional and also framed the man on his skateboard well. I stuck with the title 'Ripper' which had been used as an example and found that the poster came together quite well.
This is the final result and I am quite happy with how it looks. I feel the minimal and suggestive blocks of colour really fit with the informal and youthful attitude that is associated with skateboarding. This session was easy to follow and introduced me to an even wider range of ways to work with Illustrator and Adobe Capture.
